Freelance Editorial Lead - Global Creative Agency - London

This global agency is now looking for an Editorial Lead for its award-winning and biggest account. This is a senior creative role with exciting opportunities to shape high-profile, global content streams.

They are looking for someone with at least 4-6 years of editorial experience as a journalist or as a content creator at integrated creative agencies.

‘Editorial Lead’? .. a storyteller who thinks both journalistically and strategically, and is able to lead a breadth of creative projects.

They’re looking for someone with a strong portfolio of campaign and always-on work for B2B (or consumer) brands who can demonstrate an ability to generate big ideas, and lead creative teams to deliver them with sharp, effective writing, whether that’s in a three-word headline or an in-depth article.

The Editorial Lead will also confidently present ideas, and diplomatically defend work.

This is a hands-on role that will give you the chance to see projects through from concept to production and final delivery. That means you need to be able to back up your ideas with the creative skills to bring them to life brilliantly.

Experience of consumer tech brands is a plus, but they care most about your thinking and craft.

Immaculate attention to detail is a must.

On any given day your role will include:

Conceptual:

● Interrogating and answering a variety of client briefs.

● Working with the Strategy & Planning team to build out creative strategies, brand positioning and campaign ideas based on insights.

● Developing original ideas for story franchises, campaign concepts, creative activations and powerful product and policy narratives

● Working with a copywriter, an art director and other members of the art team to realise your ideas.

● Presenting ideas to colleagues and clients, clearly and confidently.

● Responding to critique, but also defending great ideas.

● Understanding the brand’s tone of voice inside out.

● Keeping your finger on the pulse of industry news, work and trends to inform your thinking.

 

Copy:

● Writing short and long-form copy (spanning from display ads to reports and podcast episodes) for many channels.

● Structuring and writing compelling brand narratives on big topics ranging from AI to Privacy and sustainability

● Sourcing original stories and strong interviewees for content franchises

● Writing scripts of 6 secs to 2 mins+, from video shoots to animations to mood films.

● Producing messaging, narratives and manifestos to convey your ideas.

● Writing for multiple audiences with one brand tone of voice.

● Writing client-ready decks to present your work.

 

Team:

● Leading responses to brief, creative presentations and workstreams.

● Overseeing and steering the work of junior writers on the team.

● Acting as a creative mentor for junior writers on the team.

 

In addition to the abilities above you'll be:

● Self-reliant, proactive, and quick to take the initiative.

● Audience-obsessed; builds all stories around target audience needs

● Knows the value of a nut graf and never buries the lede

● Can think visually too (not just words)

● Strong on detail and grammar.

● Has through-the-line campaign experience.

● Has good presentation skills and experience building relationships with clients.

● Is happy working solo or teaming up with an art director or other art team members.

● Is comfortable with a fast-paced environment, tight deadlines and challenging briefs.

● Enjoys collaborating with the team (including Creative Directors and Art Directors)

● Is a team player comfortable being part of a friendly, collaborative and close-knit team.
